Wildland Fire Litigation

CCP has distinguished itself as one of the nation’s preeminent firms representing defendants in catastrophic wildland fire litigation. The firm has a dedicated “Fire Team” which has represented clients involved in massive wildland fire litigation in California, Texas, Washington, Utah, New Mexico and Nevada. These cases include the 2007 wildland fires in San Diego which destroyed thousands of homes, the largest fire in the history of the State of Texas and other cases filed by hundreds and, at times, thousands of plaintiffs. Clients in these cases include electrical utilities, contractors of electrical utilities, cable and Internet providers, radio broadcasters, construction contractors, public entities and a host of other industries.

As a result of their representation of defendants in various wildland fire cases throughout the U.S., the attorneys on CCP’s Fire Team have developed extensive experience in a myriad of areas peculiar to this unique type of litigation. They routinely deal with issues as diverse as fire cause and origin, fire behavior, GIS mapping techniques, climatology, electrical engineering, public utility regulations, U.S. Forest Services regulations, inverse condemnation, real property damages, timber damage and habitat loss. The Fire Team attorneys are frequently called upon to share their experience and expertise in publications and speaking engagements, including offering presentations and papers for each of the eight years of the National Wildland Fire Litigation Conference.
